EURO Pallet Standards: A Guide for Indian Exporters

If you are an Indian manufacturer looking to export to Europe, “EURO Pallet” (often called EPAL) is a term you must know. Shipping on non-standard pallets to the EU can lead to rejected shipments or expensive repalletization fees at the port.

What defines a EURO Pallet?

The European Pallet Association (EPAL) set strict standards to ensure pallets fit perfectly into European trucks, warehouses, and retail aisles.

Common Sizes You Need to Know:

  • EUR 1 ($1200 \times 800 \text{ mm}$): The most common size, designed to fit through standard European door frames.

  • EUR 2 ($1200 \times 1000 \text{ mm}$): Often used for heavier industrial loads.

  • EUR 3 ($1000 \times 1200 \text{ mm}$): Similar to EUR 2 but oriented differently for specific racking.

Why the Standard Matters:

  • Seamless Logistics: They are designed to fit exactly two or three across in a standard European trailer.

  • Sustainability: Because they are standardized, they are part of a “pallet pool,” meaning they are frequently reused rather than discarded.

  • ISPM-15 Compliance: For Indian exporters, EURO pallets must be Heat Treated (HT) to ensure no pests are transferred across borders.

Pro Tip: Always look for the EPAL or EUR stamp on the corner blocks. This is the mark of quality and compliance that customs officials look for.
